TOM ROTHROCK gehört zu den Superlativen der Musikproduzenten. Das Album «Back to Bedlam», das er mit JAMES BLUNT produzierte, ist das meistverkaufte Album im Vereinigten Königreich, nachdem es sich bis 2005 mehr als 2’368’000 Mal verkaufte.
ROTHROCK produzierte auch Alben mit den Rockbands FOO FIGHTERS, YONDER MOUNTAIN STRING BAND, THE WARLOCKS und ATHLETE, um nur einige zu nennen. Hinzu kommen viel beachtete Filmsoundtracks, u.a. für den Thriller «Collateral» oder für «Spygame». TREND-MAGAZIN-US-Westcoast-Korrespondentin BARBARA WILDER durfte ihn in seiner Villa in den Hollywood Hills besuchen.
Ein gut gelaunter TOM ROTHROCK öffnet mir die Tür und bittet mich hinein. Ich kann mein Staunen kaum verbergen, als ich die sagenhafte Inneneinrichtung des Hauses und das Studio, das mehr als drei riesige Räume seines Hauses einschliesst, sehe. Genug Platz, um sich mit Kollegen, Musikern und DJs der Musik zu widmen, erklärt mir TOM, während er mir einen Cappuccino zaubert. Du arbeitest auch als DJ? – «Das Naheliegendste für einen Musikproduzenten ist es, auch als DJ zu arbeiten, denn man arrangiert Musik in beiden Bereichen», bejaht er meine Frage. «Mein neues Projekt ist eine Show mit DJs der House-Szene, die zusammen mit Musikern und Sängern aus aller Welt auftreten. Ich nenne es the «Wild Wild Set». Für den nächsten Sommer sind auch Auftritte in Europa vorgesehen. Mehr darüber ist auf seiner Website zu erfahren. Dort stosse ich auch auf einen interessanten Link: «Fuzzyland». Was ist das? TOM ROTHROCK erklärt: «Meiner Frau MONIQUE und mir gehört ein Stück Land. Es befindet sich ca. eine Stunde von Los Angeles, nahe beim Pyramid Lake. Ursprünglich wollten wir dort ein Haus bauen, um unsere Freunde zu Musikevents einzuladen. Aus dieser Idee ist ein Baumhaus entstanden, das noch viel mehr in diese raue und unberührte Gegend passt.» – Klingt abenteuerlich. – «Das war ja genau die Idee. Dance- und Housemusic, weltberühmte DJs und eine ungezwungene Atmosphäre inmitten unberührter Natur.»
Aktuell arbeitet TOM ROTHROCK am neuen Album von PETE MURRAY, einem australischen Sänger, dessen vorangegangene Alben alle Nummer eins in Australien wurden. «Ein Musiker, der mich mit seiner Stimme und Musik überzeugt hat», sagt er dazu.
Zum Schluss beschäftigt mich noch eine Frage: Was hat es mit dem Rehkopf in seinem Wohnzimmer auf sich? TOM lacht: «Das ist kein echter Rehkopf. Meine Frau fand diese Skulptur in einer Galerie. Sie ist aus Pappmaschee und der Asche eines Waldbrandes gemacht. Alles sehr tierfreundlich!»

Rothrock also produced albums for the rock band Foo Fighters, YONDER MOUNTAIN STRING BAND and THE ATHLETE WARLOCKS, to name just a few. He has also produced highly acclaimed film soundtracks, including the thriller "Collateral" or "Spygame".
TREND MAGAZINE U.S. West Coast correspondent BARBARA WILDER had the chance to visit him in his mansion in the Hollywood Hills.
A well-tempered Tom Rothrock answers the door and welcomes me in. I could hardly hide my surprise when I saw the fabulous interior of the house and the studio, which includes more than three large rooms in his house. "Enough space to devote to colleagues, musicians and DJs in the music industry", Tom explains , as he makes me a cappuccino.
You also work as a DJ? - "The obvious thing for a music producer is to work as a DJ, music gets created in both areas," he confirms my question. "My new project is a show with DJs in the house scene, acting together with musicians and singers from around the world. I call it the "Wild Wild Set '. Amongs those links is another interesting link: "Fuzzyland." What is that? Tom Rothrock explains: "My wife Monique and I own a piece of land. It is located about an hour from Los Angeles, near the Pyramid Lake. Originally, we wanted to build a house there, to invite our friends to music events. This idea has been to build a tree house that blends in much more in this rough and unspoiled region "-. Sounds adventurous. - "That was exactly the idea. Dance and house music, world famous DJs and a relaxed atmosphere amidst unspoiled nature. " Currently Tom Rothrock is working on his new album with PETE MURRAY, an Australian singer whose previous albums were all number one hits in Australia. "A musician who impressed me with his voice and music," he says. At the end of the interview, I have one more question to ask: What is the deal with the deer head in your living room? Tom laughs, "This is not a real deer's head. My wife found this sculpture in a gallery. It is made of paper mache and ashes from a forest fire. All very pet friendly! "
